Pav Bhaji Recipe

Pav Bhaji is a popular Indian street food dish that originated in Mumbai. It is a combination of a spicy vegetable curry called bhaji and soft bread rolls called pav. Pav Bhaji is easy to make and can be a great dish to serve at parties or gatherings. Here is a simple recipe for Pav Bhaji:

Ingredients:

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 cup of mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, cauliflower, beans), boiled and mashed
  • 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 2 tablespoons Pav Bhaji Masala
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt to taste
  • 8 Pav bread rolls
  • Chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions:

  1. In a large pan or kadhai, heat the butter over medium heat. Once the butter melts, add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and green chilies and sauté until onions turn translucent.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute until the raw smell goes away.
  4. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  5. Add red chili powder, turmeric powder, Pav Bhaji Masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables to the pan and mix well with the spices. Cook for 5-6 minutes until everything is well combined and the vegetables are fully cooked.
  7. Add a tablespoon of butter and mix well. Keep stirring for another 2-3 minutes until the bhaji turns thick and mushy.
  8. Cut the Pav bread rolls in half and lightly toast them on a griddle or in a toaster.
  9. Serve the hot bhaji with toasted Pav bread rolls and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Your Pav Bhaji is now ready to serve. You can also add additional toppings such as chopped onions, lemon juice, or grated cheese on top of the bhaji for added flavor. Enjoy!
